Saya ingin mengambil kesempatan ini untuk mengemukakan sebuah kisah dari zaman pemerintahan Saidina Umar Al-Khattab (r.a) untuk tatapan dan renungan tuan-tuan sekalian. Melalui pendedahan ini, adalah diharap sebahagian dari ummat Islam yang tidak memahami konsep keadilan Islam terhadap agama lain, akan sedikit sebanyak dapat memikirkan kembali sikap dan pendirian mereka itu. Kisah yang ingin dikemukakan adalah kisah Saidina Umar dan Kanisah (gereja) Al-Qiamah yang terletak di Quds. Kisah ini adalah petikan dari muka surat 114, kitab Itmam al-Wafa’ fi sirah al-Khulafa’ , tulisan as-Syeikh Muhammad bin al-Afifi al-Banjuri, Darul Ibnu Hazim. “Dan apabila masuknya Saidina Umar ke dalam kota, maka masuklah beliau ke dalam Kanisah (gereja) al-Qiamah, dan beliau duduk di ruang utama gereja tersebut . Setelah tiba waktu solat asar, maka berkata Saidina Umar kepada Patriach Kanisah tersebut, “Saya ingin mengerjakan solat.” Jawab Patriach: “Solat sahajalah di sini”. Tetapi Umar menolak cadangan

IT is most unfortunate that some parliamentarians from both sides of the divide are behaving like thugs. Not only that, some even complement their bad behaviour with colourful language in Parliament and do not show any decorum during debates. They don’t seem to be ashamed of themselves.
As lawmakers elected by the rak-yat to represent us, aren’t they are supposed to show exemplary conduct and be role models for the youth? It’s never a good thing to watch rude members of parliament when they are debating serious matters.
Early last week, video clips went viral on social media of a very ugly incident where the son of one MP, along with nine others claiming to be Umno members, attacked an opposition MP.
Whatever their reasons, they should not have taken the law into their own hands.
Of late, it seems that many people are trying to be brave for the wrong reasons.
For the public, this is a very scary development. There may come a time when it will no longer be safe to walk on the streets.
Nevertheless, the police deserve praise for quickly getting the group to surrender. Quite surprisingly, there was a woman among them.
I only hope that they all will be punished accordingly, regardless of who they are.
How did that group of 10 people enter the parliament compound when it is supposed to be guarded? Isn’t security supposed to be tight at all times? I dread to think of what would have happened if they had been armed terrorists.
Whoever is in charge, please get everyone to toe the line. We do not need recalcitrants doubling up as lawmakers; worse, if they behave like thugs.
Discipline now seems to be a thing of the past and many are taking matters into their own hands. Drastic action must be taken against such offenders.
It’s time all party leaders exercise their authority. Leaders should be thinking of the people and the country; parliament is not a place for them to push their personal agendas. They should not be selfish.
Let us see order again in Parliament and in the country.
The gentlemen and ladies we elect into Parliament to represent us should behave themselves and carry out the duties and responsibilities expected of them.
