PAS is not Built Around Individuals

Despite his appointment as first-term parliamentarian after the 2008 general election, PAS’ Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad is not a new face in Malaysian politics. The brother of former minister, Shahrir Samad, has been a vocal proponent of the party since joining it in 1983. He contested in four parliamentary seats prior to winning Shah Alam. Little known to many, Khalid was detained for nine months under the infamous Internal Security Act (ISA) during Operation Lalang in 1987. In an exclusive interview with FMT, Khalid speaks of his achievements as first-term MP, the controversial Allah issue, and gives his views of his former colleague Dr Hasan Ali.

PAS Does not Reject Anwar as PM

Khalid Samad today rebutted claims of PAS’ unhappiness over Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim being the candidate for prime minister should Pakatan Rakyat win federal power in Election 2013. The Shah Alam MP said the party’s silence on the matter was to take the focus off Anwar as an individual, not because they disagreed with supporting him as PM. He also dismissed allegations that the party has been ‘bowing down’ to its coalition partners and deviating from its original goals for the sake of holding Pakatan together.

Response: Are political parties like DAP, Umno a berhala?

I read with interest the article written by Anas Zubedy entitled “ Are political parties like DAP, Umno a berhala? ” that was published by FMT a few weeks ago. The article was referring to a tweet that I sent quoting an ayat from the Quran. The problem with twitter is that due to the short messages, certain issues cannot be explained fully or as clearly. I am therefore grateful for this opportunity to discuss the question raised by Anas in his letter to the FMT through a medium which allows lengthier discourses.

Khalid Samad Sees Najib as a Joke

SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has overplayed his card in delaying the 13th general election, giving Pakatan Rakyat a greater chance of winning than it ever had before, according to the MP for Shah Alam, PAS’ Khalid Samad. In an interview with FMT, Khalid said Najib had become the laughing stock of Malaysians for delaying the dissolution of parliament despite calls by the public, including numerous political leaders, for the election to be held as soon as possible. He claimed that the political situation was no longer to Barisan Nasional’s advantage but was ripe for Pakatan to take over the reins of the federal government. “He thought delaying would make the situation better for BN, but he has been proven wrong.”

Coretan Pagi Jumaat

Kesian. Pernahkah seorang PM Malaysia diejek sedemikian rupa?
